Dear Parents and Students:
My name is
Mrs. Kay Brownyard, and I am the School Counselor at Hickory Creek
School. I will take this opportunity to explain the School Counseling
Program. I hope you will find this information helpful to you.
It is my
goal to help you and your child (our student), to have the best school
year possible. The Counseling Program includes a variety of services to
help meet that goal. These services are outlined below:

The Purposes of School Counseling
The School Counseling Program supports all students in their
educational, career, personal, and social development, thus enabling
them to become life-long learners and productive citizens in our
communities and around the world. This goal is accomplished by:
1. Helping students identify their skills, abilities, interests, and
achievements through counseling and guidance activities
2.
Helping students solve problems in a positive way.
3.
Helping students with issues such as self-esteem, friendships, grief,
adjustment to a new school and study skills.
4. Helping students succeed by working with the faculty and parents.
Benefits of Counseling
For Students:

* Improves understanding of self and others in a diverse society

* Promotes career exploration and development
For Parents:
* Provides support for parents regarding their child's short and long
range educational development
* Increases opportunities for collaboration and communication between
parents and school
* Assists parents to obtain necessary resources
Confidentiality in Counseling:
Counseling services are kept confidential. However, there are times when
confidentiality
has limitations.
Limitations of Confidentiality:
1.
Your child or the student reports being abused. A report must be made to
the proper authorities and personnel.
2.Your
child or the student is threatening to harm himself /herself. A report
must be made to the parent(s), guardian(s), and/or school officials.
3.Your
child or the student is threatening to harm someone else.
A report must be made to the parent(s), guardian(s), and/or school
officials.
